Designing a geothermal system requires knowledge in many different areas of HVAC design in order for the system to operate successfully. Learn about the four basic systems of a geothermal installation, including the ground loop, refrigeration system, air system and hot water system.

Investigate proper design requirements for the air system and determine hot water design criteria by focusing on the design and installation of the ground loop system. Examine common issues with geothermal ground installations and discuss troubleshooting techniques to solve these problems.

Prerequisite

Attendees should be able to perform basic heat load calculations on a building.

As a result of this training you will be able to:

  • Describe the benefits of implementing a geothermal system.
  • Understand the basics of air duct design and hot water design.
  • Explain how the refrigeration system extracts and deposits heat between the ground and the building.
  • Properly design a geothermal ground loop system.
  • Identify and correct common issues with geothermal systems.

Who Should Attend?

Architects, designers, engineers, building owners, facility managers, building performance consultants, heating and cooling contractors, and construction professionals in residential or commercial new construction or HVAC retrofits
